Work begins on next chapter of Wemyss’ Glasgow story

Work has started on the redevelopment of three exceptional town houses in the Park District of Glasgow. Number 12, 18 and 19 Newton Place will be turned into a mix of six two-, three- and four-bedroom properties. The properties are located on a beautiful tree-lined terrace, close to Kelvingrove Park and within easy reach of the heart of the city.

“These will be lovely flats that will retain a wealth of original features,” says Development Manager, Abbi Brownlow. “The development of Newton Place from a mainly commercial to a residential street is part of an on-going programme of improvements in the surrounding area, which is already one of the most sought-after locations in the city.”

The construction phase of this exciting new development will take approximately twelve months. The design and layout of the new homes have been carefully considered to optimise space and to retain the grandeur of the original architecture. All finishes will be of the highest standard, with luxury bathrooms and kitchens just part of a bespoke package of fitments and fittings.

Rettie & Co. has been appointed as Sales Agents for the development and the property will be marketed through Rettie’s Byers Road branch. The development follows on from the success of our Lynedoch Terrace and Woodside Terrace developments in the same part of the city.

For anyone interested in the new development, full details and plans are available for view. To register interest or to arrange a meeting to find out more, please contact Abbi Brownlow. (Abbi@wpco.co.uk; 0131 240 5708)

Craigleith development moving ahead following planning permission success

The initial phase of work at our new Edinburgh development at Craigleith started in July, with the demolition of the site’s existing buildings. Construction of the new development itself is scheduled for November.

“Following a successful planning application, it is very satisfying to have begun this exciting new addition to our Edinburgh portfolio,” says Project Manager, Gareth Williams. “Alongside the demolition work, the building warrant for the development has also been submitted and the details of interior designs and finishes are currently being fine-tuned.”

The plans for the development involve the construction of eight high-quality homes that have been designed to reflect the architecture of the surrounding area.

“This is a sought after address,” Gareth adds. “It is within easy reach of the city centre, including Princess Street, and the green space of Edinburgh’s beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens. It puts all of the best things that the capital has to offer within easy reach.”

Among the other attractions that are close to the development are the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, and Ravelston and Murrayfield Golf Clubs. The locality also has a good range of shops within easy reach and is close to leading schools, including Mary Erskine and Fettes College.

Anybody interested in the development should contact Abbi Brownlow for more information. (Abbi@wpco.co.uk; 0131 240 5708)

WEMYSS PROPERTIES LENDS A HAND TO SET UP NEW DISTILLERY FOR DARNLEY’S GIN

Wemyss Properties Project Manager Gareth Williams has provided his expertise to help one of our sister companies, Darnley’s Gin, construct a new gin still at Kingsbarns whisky distillery, which is located six miles from St. Andrews in Fife.

“I provided project management on the build of this heritage refurbishment project, which is in an old farm cottage,” explains Gareth Williams. “The construction of this new distillery represents a home-coming for Darnley’s Gin to Fife, an area where the Wemyss Family, who own the brand, has ancient roots.”

The new distillery, which marks a major investment in the future of Darnley’s Gin, incorporates a beautiful copper still from Italy and a new visitor centre. The construction project, which involved the refurbishment of the existing building and the construction of an extension, took about fourteen weeks. This was a very short time-scale for the work involved. However, given the expertise of Gareth and the rest of the team everything went without a hitch.

Darnley’s is an award-winning gin which is available in three different styles. It harnesses the Wemyss family’s expertise and passion for the distillery business that dates back to the turn of the 19th century.

It is expected that the building warrant for the scheme will be issued soon and that work will start in earnest in late Spring.

Newton Place is a beautiful tree-lined terrace in the Park area of Glasgow, close to Kelvingrove Park and within easy reach of the heart of the city.
