Wemyss scoops Housebuilder of the Year (less than 100 units) Award at 11th annual Scottish Home Awards

We are proud to announce that we were named Housebuilder of the Year (less than 100 units) at this year’s Scottish Home Awards. In their comments, the judges agreed that the consistency of our products and service put us ahead of the competition.

“The Small Housebuilder of the Year award is a great honour for all of us at Wemyss,” says Managing Director, Matthew Atton. “It reflects the dedication of the whole of the team to creating bespoke developments that offer homes that are the best of their type.”

We were also highly commended in Apartment of the Year Award for our residential development at Newbattle Terrace in Morningside, and highly commended in the Customer Service Excellence Award.

The Scottish Home Awards 2018, which was sponsored by Ross & Liddell, crowned 16 housebuilding companies with awards following a meticulous judging period by the country’s leading housing experts. Competition for these awards was tough, with a record 68 housebuilding companies entering the event.

The Scottish Home Awards was founded in 2007 to recognise excellence in the Scottish housebuilding industry. The awards were also a fundraiser for ‘It’s Good 2 Give’, a small charity that supports young cancer patients and their families, and for the British Red Cross.

Plans keep expanding at Newbattle Terrace

We are very excited to report that we are now looking to increase the number of proposed units at our Newbattle Terrace development by seven flats. This follows our successful negotiations at 54 Newbattle Terrace, which have been on a “subject to planning” basis. If successful, this will bring the total for this development to 25 flats.

“Having initially acquired one property with plans to create just 11 new build flats, unexpectedly this site has continued to expand,” says Managing Director, Matthew Atton, who explains that work has already started on site with the demolition of the original buildings at 50 and 52 Newbattle Terrace. “We are very excited by this and what the proposed development will be able to offer for the Morningside Area.”

Newbattle Terrace will offer a choice of stylish contemporary apartments close to the heart of Morningside, which is one of Edinburgh’s most popular residential areas. The Terrace has an exceptional location, on a leafy street just along from the famous family-run Dominion cinema. Morningside itself is close to the centre of Edinburgh and offers excellent schools, superb local amenities and a wide range of supermarkets (including Marks & Spencer and Waitrose), independent stores and delicatessens.??? Phase two at Newbattle Terrace gets the go-ahead

Our plans for an exclusive contemporary development at Newbattle Terrace have taken an important new step forward, following the recent announcement that we have received planning consent for phase two of the development. This means that we can move forward with our plans to build an additional seven apartments at the location – bringing the total number up to 18.

“This is a really exciting new project in a fantastic location just along from the famous family-run Dominion cinema,” says our Managing Director, Matthew Atton.

“Now that planning permission for both phases is in place we will be moving forward with construction. Our aim is to start construction works in 2015.”

The project will see the demolition of the existing buildings on the site and the construction of a spectacular contemporary new residence, which will provide luxury accommodation of the highest quality. The design of the project will echo many of the elements found in our very popular Polwarth Terrace development, which is located nearby.

Morningside is one of Edinburgh’s most desirable residential addresses thanks to its convenient location, excellent schools, local amenities, supermarkets (including Marks & Spencer and Waitrose), independent stores and delicatessens.
