A Commitment to
Excellence
We take great pride in the quality of the homes we build and the level of service we provide.
Our Approach
Wemyss Properties takes a hands-on approach to all aspects of the property business. We have the experience and expertise to find and acquire the best sites and to project manage and build our properties to the highest standards.
Sympathetic Development
We are proud of the fact that all of our homes are unique and that everything we build is designed to be in keeping with its surroundings and sympathetic to local architecture. For example, when we undertake a conversion project, we aim to retain as much of the character and personality of the original building as we can.
True Character
We use high-quality materials such as local stone and slate to give our homes real integrity and solidity, and we go the extra mile to ensure that our developments are beautifully landscaped, so that they really enhance their surroundings. This sympathetic approach ensures that our homes have character and are really welcoming places to live.
Craftsmanship and Quality
We are dedicated to the highest levels of craftsmanship and quality in each of the homes we built.Wemyss Properties carefully design and build every development to provide a place that you will be proud to call home. This commitment to quality also means that all our homes boast the highest ‘spec' fittings and finishes – from their bathrooms and kitchens to their flooring and woodwork.
Modern Performance
To further enhance pride of ownership, we use the latest technology and construction techniques to ensure that our homes perform superbly. We make sure that a Wemyss Properties home not only looks beautiful, but works beautifully too.
What Our Developments Say About Us
Early developments highlight Wemyss Properties' historic links to the communities and countryside of Fife and our dedication to preserving the architectural heritage of the region.
Below are an example of some of these developments.
Dorothy School, West Wemyss
West Wemyss is an historic village on the shores of the Firth of Forth. Here, Wemyss Properties has developed a stunning collection of new homes that overlook the village's beautiful old harbour. To ensure that they blended in seamlessly with the historic houses around them, Wemyss Properties used bespoke designs that complimented the existing diverse range of styles and colours in the village. Dorothy School has been declared a great success, so much so that many visitors think that it is part of the original village.

Plantation Row - Coaltown of Wemyss
Plantation Row is in the Coaltown of Wemyss conservation village. The development is the conversion of a terrace of former one bedroom miners cottages into 8 beautiful modern family homes. The refurbishment has retained the traditional harled walls and pan tiled roofs that are such as feature of the other buildings in the village. These cottages are totally in keeping with the predominant architectural style that is seen throughout the traditional fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife.

Our Story
The Wemyss Development Company Limited
Wemyss Properties is part of the Wemyss Development Company. The history of the company is a fascinating one and can be traced as far back as the fifteen century, when the Wemyss family was involved in the coal mining industry in Fife. Over the years, the family built a strong reputation for the high quality of the housing they provided for their miners. Today this can be seem in the village of Coaltown of Wemyss – a ground-breaking community that had close links with the world-famous Garden City Movement.
Wine and Whisky
The nationalisation of coal mining allowed the family to explore new interests. The first such venture was a tea company in Kenya. Today, the Sotik Tea Company continues to grow exceptional tea, which it supplies to the world market. The Wemyss Development Company then expanded into wine making in both the South of France (www.rimauresq.fr) and Western Australia (www.fontyspoolwines.com.au). It also created a unique range of malt whiskies in Scotland. (www.wemyssmalts.com)
Past, Present and Future
Throughout the whole history of the Wemyss family and the Wemyss Development Company there has remained one consistent aspect: property. The company has long owned and managed a stock of residential housing in the Kirkcaldy area of Fife. In the new millennium, Wemyss Properties Ltd. expanded into house building, first through the extensive refurbishment of the properties it owned and then by moving on to new build and the sympathetic conversion of steading buildings.
